Product - UK Warranty
When
you buy ANY new transceiver from Belmont Communications Ltd, you
are guaranteed to be receiving a product which has been designed
for the UK market, is type approved for the UK market, and is sourced
through officially recognised manufacturer routes to market.
The manufacturers warranty which comes with all our new products
is valid here in the UK and this gives real piece of mind to the
consumer.
BEWARE:
Many UK radio dealers will NOT give you this
pledge!!
There
are a number of issues which arise from buying "cheaper"
imported goods from other suppliers who are not offering you a UK
product:
1.
In the event of a problem arising with a transceiver as a fault
in manufacture, the warranty will probably NOT be valid in the UK.
If the equipment is designed for, and sourced in a foreign country,
then that is where the warranty will be applicable. Long after
any warranty has expired, you may still find it difficult to obtain
servicing and spare parts from official dealers, because the serial
number of a transceiver is used to obtain spare parts and this number
identifies the unit as being from foreign shores.
2.
The transceiver specification may be very different from that of
a UK model. There are a host of transceivers out there which
have a completely different "set-up" to those which are
made for the UK market. For example: An American marine transceiver
may have the same name as its UK equivalent (eg. Icom M1V), but
it will not operate on all the UK marine channels. By the
same token, an A/V Receiver (such as the Icom IC-R3) will not decode
the UK television transmissions successfully as it has not been
made to deal with the UK frequency spectrum.
3. Type Approval.
All radio equipment which is made for the UK must be "type
approved" for this market. This approval involves several
facets including electrical safety and transmitter / receiver performance.
Equipment which is not designed for, or sourced from the EU will
not be type approved for use in the UK, and can actually be confiscated
by the DTI since it is illegal to operate such equipment here in
the UK.
